No to Palin, No to Prop 8

I am fed up with our divided nation. How can we move forward when we are deadlocked? Red states, blue states, left-wing, right-wing, conservative, liberal. How did we get here? A lot of media attention has been placed on novelty and historical significance. More focus needs to be placed on the untruths, exagerations, and negative campaigning permeating every facet of the election. Both sides are certainly guilty of mudslinging. And the Democratic Party’s stretching of the facts disappoints me, I think I’m still too idealistic, too naive, to believe that one could actually run a clean campaign. Politics is one crazy business. It makes the disadvantaged suffer and the privileged even richer in dollars and power. Our government needs to get into the business of innovation and start making real change. It’s been static for almost eight years. It has lost its ingenuity and creativity, and the definition of a real America. God have mercy on us.

got hope?

30 08 2008

Obama’s speech last night was inspiring. I’ve never been so captivated by a political speech — not even anything Mr. and Mrs. Clinton have presented. I almost stood up, clapped and hollered. Was it the goals and promises he made? Like ending our dependence on foreign oil in 10 years. Creating new jobs and turning our economy around. Pulling out of Iraq responsibly and actually fighting to find Bin Laden. Maybe it was the historical importance of this nomination and this election, having an overwhelmingly full stadium with enthusiastic supporters, and the thought of having a president other than Bush next year. It surely was a mix of things. There was definitely a theme of hope that resonnated through his speech. And then just seeing his family walk out to meet him at the podium and then waving together at the crowd made me teary eyed. Was America finally ready for a person of color to lead the nation?

Barack the Vote!

29 08 2008

I am voting for Barack Obama and hoping for the change he promises. It’s an hour before the acceptance speech he gives in Denver for the Dem nomination. And I wonder about how much of an impact his speech will have on people still sitting on the fence and members of the GOP. I know I’m excited about it. But it seems like the race for the White House is currently neck and neck, if you trust all those polls. I’ve been watching too much election coverage that “historical” and “meat” are the only two words that stand out amid the reporters’ voices. They are wanting meat. They want one candidate to point out all the negative aspects of the other candidate and then insult their mother. Then they want to see some major retaliation. We will see.
