Another Orchid in Bloom

1 12 2011

My Encyclia tampensis is in bloom. The flowers are about an inch and a half across. I had the orchid growing outside all summer long and is now hanging in the kitchen window. There are four buds this year. I used the olloclip macro lens on my iPhone 4S to take this photo. And then used Instagram to edit.

I’m now on WordPress! Please excuse the mess as I fix a few formatting issues. I had to import my posts from Blogger and then add additional posts from my website. Now all my posts are in one spot!

Vanda ‘Tokyo Blue’ Blooms Again

12 11 2011

The first bud of my Vanda ‘Tokyo Blue’ opened on November 4th. This orchid is such a reliable bloomer. This year’s spike has five buds and the purple color is more intense. I used the PicFrame app to compose this image. The three pics were taken with an iPhone.

Introducing Frisco

30 05 2011

Frisco is our new family member. We knew we were going to adopt another dog after Rocky’s passing. How and when we just didn’t know. Definitely, not another German Shepherd. Something different. Having another dog at home came certainly sooner than I expected. Frisco started off as Licorice atSacramento County Animal Care, then pulled by Hopalong Animal Rescue. We came to meet Licorice, then Sarge, when his new home wasn’t working out. He was the first dog we saw and we knew immediately he was coming home with us. He is a cute, loving, boisterous one-year-old black Labrador Retriever. He seems to be settling in well, but will need a lot of love and training. He has brought life back to our home and is helping fill the void in our hearts. It’s still a bittersweet time for us, but we’re laughing again and having fun with our new puppy. We know we can never replace Rocky, but we know we will always make a forever home for another deserving dog. There are just too many out there that need a home. Welcome home, Frisco!

Rocky, Rest in Peace

Rocky, the amazing German Shepherd, left us yesterday. He was one of my best friends and one of the greatest dogs ever. I miss him so much. I posted this on Facebook yesterday.

“Today we said goodbye to the most beautiful creature we have ever known. He had the biggest heart and gave us so much love and joy. We were the lucky ones to have him join our family and be a constant in our lives for the past seven years. He’s been there for all the ups and downs. He got us through some really tough and crazy times. He changed our lives forever. Though our hearts are broken, we will never forget him. We look forward to the day we will see each other again.”
